The EU kept abreast on including "sexual orientation" in the anti-discrimination legislation
This is stated in the letter that the head of the department of the Eastern Partnership Dirk Schuebel sent to Executive Director of AUCO Fulcrum and LGBT activist Bogdan Globa.
In early December, Bogdan Globa sent a letter to the High representative of the European Union on Foreign Affairs Federitsi Moherini to implement the Visa liberalization Action Plan and anti-discrimination legislation.
In the reply letter, the head of the Eastern Partnership Department Dirk Schuebel said that the EU expert committee visited Ukraine in the fall and plan to visit it again earlier this year. They plan to evaluate the accomplishment of block IV of Visa liberalization Action Plan which should include prohibition of discrimination based on sexual orientation.
"The EU has been continuosly encouraging the Ukrainian authorities, as lately during the Association Council attended by Prime Minister Yatseniuk on 15 December 2014, to focus on the effecive and sustainable implementation of the legal and institutional framework", including anti-discrimination legislation, says the letter of Dirk Schuebel.
He noted that a comprehensive and effective implementation of all the reforms must be performed during the second phase of the Action Plan on visa liberalization.
