The Ukrainian Parliament failed to prohibit discrimination based on sexual orientation
The members of the Parliament haven’t voted for bill №3442 "On Amendments to the Labor Code of Ukraine (concerning harmonization of legislation in the sphere of combating discrimination in accordance with the EU law)", which provides prohibition of discrimination on grounds of sexual orientation and gender identity .
The Parliament did not have the necessary quantity of votes for enactment.
However, it should be noted that MPs voted for introducing the bill on the agenda. Currently, it has been sent to the committees, where MPs will study it in more detail. It is expected to be put to the vote again during this plenary week.
We’d like to remind that the activists staged a rally outside Verkhovna Rada with the requirement to adopt a package of "visa-free" laws. The adoption of this bill is the necessary requirement of the European Commission to launch a visa-free regime with the EU.
