"I call upon those who can solve it to work towards overcoming these phenomena"
Chairman of the Committee on Human Rights of National Minorities and Interethnic Relations Hryhoriy Nemyria made a statement in which he called upon to fight discrimination against the LGBT community.
The official website of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine informs about that.
He noted that today the world celebrates the Day of fight against homophobia. In his view, this is a good occasion to remind that Ukraine is strongly committed to the observance of human rights and non-discrimination on any grounds.
"According to the annual report of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on Human Rights in 2016, the Ukrainian society remains biased towards the members of the LGBT community which manifests itself in numerous cases of discrimination, contempt for human dignity, freedom of expression and peaceful assembly, as well as crimes motivated by homophobic and transphobic intolerance.
“I call upon those who can do it to work towards overcoming these phenomena and make every effort within their power to establish a tolerant and inclusive society, " said the MP.
We recall that last year, the LGBT activist Bogdan Globa became an assistant consultant of deputy Hryhoriy Nemyria.
Earlier Ambassadors of 13 countries urged Ukraine to ensure the safety of the equality march.
