For the first time in the history, the Ukrainian delegation took part in the meeting of the national community of parents, relatives and friends of LGBT people, which took place in Berlin on April 19-21. At the meeting, the representatives of the AUCO Fulcrum, parent initiatives «Tergo», as well as employees of the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ) deputized our country.
Dr. Kristina Schröder, Minister for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth, emphasized the importance of parents’movement and expressed hope for further cooperation. During the meeting, the mayor of Berlin, Mr. Klaus Wowereit welcomed the Ukrainian participants and considered this visit as a sign of significant future changes for the better in Ukraine. Special attention was paid to cooperation, international partnerships and exchanges of best practices in the future.
"We were able to see how influential, credible and meaningful a community can be, how open and cooperative the power is " - says the leader of the parents’movement in Ukraine Olena Hloba. «BEFAH», community of parents, relatives and friends of LGBT people of Germany, which has existed for over 20 years, could make significant progress and change social attitudes towards LGBT people, their families and children. We definitely have a lot to learn from them "- says Elena.
The AUCO Fulcrum and the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ) in Ukraine actively support the movement of parents, relatives, friends of LGBT within the program of HIV / AIDS prevention what is the unique initiative in our country.
